How to Clean Your Vape Tank: Step-by-Step Guide
A clean tank means better flavour and longer device life. Follow our simple step-by-step guide to keep your vape tank in perfect condition.
Regular cleaning is one of the easiest ways to maintain peak flavour and extend the life of your vape tank. Whether you're switching e-liquid flavours or just doing routine maintenance, here's how to clean your tank properly.
Why Clean Your Tank?
- Removes old e-liquid residue that muddles flavour
- Prevents gunk buildup that can damage seals and threads
- Essential when changing e-liquid flavours to avoid mixing
- Extends the overall lifespan of your tank
Basic Clean (Warm Water)
For routine maintenance, a warm water rinse is all you need:
- Disassemble your tank completely — remove the coil, glass, drip tip, and base
- Empty any remaining e-liquid
- Rinse each non-electronic component under warm running water
- Shake off excess water and place on kitchen paper to air dry
- Allow all parts to dry completely (2-3 hours or overnight)
- Reassemble with a fresh coil
Deep Clean (Stubborn Residue)
For tanks with heavy buildup or when switching between very different flavour profiles:
- Disassemble the tank as above
- Soak components in a bowl of warm water with a drop of dish soap for 20-30 minutes
- Use a soft brush or cotton bud to gently scrub threads and hard-to-reach areas
- Rinse thoroughly under clean water to remove all soap
- For extra freshness, do a final rinse with a small amount of unflavoured vodka (it evaporates cleanly)
- Dry completely before reassembling
What NOT to Do
- Never put electronic components (battery, mod) in water
- Don't use harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive cleaners
- Avoid reusing old coils after cleaning — coils cannot be effectively cleaned
- Don't reassemble while parts are still wet
How Often Should You Clean?
As a general rule, clean your tank every time you change your coil (typically every 1-2 weeks). If you're switching flavour profiles, a quick rinse between fills will prevent flavour ghosting.
